Here is the short version, then the reasoning. ## The short version - **Buying for yourself and you own frames or have a framer?** Matte poster, $29–$49. - **Buying as a gift?** Framed, $89–$159. It arrives ready to hang. - **Large blank wall, no other framed art nearby?** Canvas, $99–$179. ## What each format actually is **Matte poster** — 12×16, 18×24 or 24×36, $29 to $49. Printed at 300 DPI on archival stock, shipped flat or rolled depending on size. This is the only format that goes to 24×36, so if you want the largest possible version of a drawing, it is a poster. The trade-off is that you are now responsible for a frame, and framing a 24×36 costs more than the print did. **Framed print** — 12×16, 16×24 or 20×30, $89 to $159, in a black wood frame, ready to hang out of the box. The 16×24 is the size most people should buy: big enough that the dimension callouts and title block stay readable, small enough to fit an ordinary wall without planning around it. **Gallery-wrapped canvas** — 12×16, 18×24 or 24×30, $99 to $179, at 1.5" depth with no frame line. Canvas suits a wall with nothing else on it, because the lack of a frame edge means it does not compete with other framed pieces. It is the softest of the three formats — canvas weave slightly rounds the finest lines, which matters most on the densest drawings like the compass rose. ## Picking a size for a specific wall The usable rule: a single piece should cover roughly two thirds to three quarters of the width of the furniture it hangs over. Over a 60" sofa, that is a piece 40–45" wide — which nothing in this catalogue reaches on its own, so a sofa wall wants two pieces or a poster at 24×36 hung landscape-adjacent to something else. Over a console table, a nightstand, or a desk, a single 16×24 framed or 18×24 canvas is usually right. Hang height: centre of the piece at about 57–60 inches from the floor, which is roughly eye level for most people standing. If it hangs above furniture, leave 6–10 inches between the top of the furniture and the bottom of the frame so the two read as a group rather than two separate things. ## One thing specific to technical drawings These are not posters where the subject is a shape. The content is line work, callouts, a dimension chain, and a title block along the bottom. All of that has a minimum legible size. Going one size smaller than you planned costs you the detail that is the reason to own the drawing in the first place — which is not true of, say, a colour-field print. Practical consequence: if you are between two sizes, take the larger one. The working guideline is about two-thirds of the width of the furniture below it, with six to ten inches of gap above the backrest. Undersizing is the more common mistake and the more obvious one — a small piece on a wide wall reads as unfinished rather than as restrained. ## Does the drawing get cropped at the smaller sizes? No. Each size prints the whole plate. Where a size's proportions differ from the drawing's, the *sheet* is extended — the paper and the background grid grow, the drawing itself is untouched and unscaled — so the border and the title block survive at every size. The margins are simply a little wider on some sizes than others. ## Poster, framed or canvas — which one lasts? All three are printed to order, and light is what determines how they age, not the substrate.
